Day 1 : Meet & Greet by professional driver/guide in Nairobi| Drive to Sandai / Solio (ca. 2-3 hours)
Laikipia is home to more endangered wildlife than anywhere else in East Africa, protecting half of Kenya's black rhino, and guests can enjoy particularly diverse safari experiences, with game drives, bush walks, horse riding and multi-day walking & camel trekking safaris. Wildlife population densities in the Laikipia region and Ewaso eco-system now rank second to the internationally renowned Maasai Mara ecosystem, whilst the diversity of large mammals is higher than in any other part of Kenya. The Ewaso eco-system is home to the second largest population of elephant in Kenya and the area hosts the highest populations of endangered species in the country. Laikipia supports seven heavily protected rhino sanctuaries, which together hold over half of Kenya's black rhino population. Wild and sparsely populated, much of Laikipia is covered by large privately owned ranches. On most ranches cattle share the land with free ranging wildlife. The private game reserves offer exclusive nature and wildlife experiences far away from the beaten path and in diverse scenery - from the edge of the Great Rift Valley, to the peaks of snow-capped Mount Kenya, with vast plains and verdant grasslands, interspersed with rocky hills, rivers, and waterholes. Solio Ranch; a privately owned Wildlife Conservancy offers spectacular scenery, superb game viewing and a wide variety of activities such as game walks and horse riding and provides a refuge for several endangered species such as White Rhinos. Guests can enjoy activity holidays including fantastic walking and horse riding safaris or simply retreat from the world.
Leaving the City of Nairobi behind you, your road takes you via scarce vegetation, hills and endless plains to the home to the second largest population of elephant in Kenya: here you find huge herds of Elephants and protected Rhinos in a single Ranch. After check in, you will proceed to have guided game drives in one of the Ranches; the Ol Pejeta Ranch where you can also have guided safari walks, visit the Chimpanzees and visit a Rhino, albeit a blind one up-close. You will have the option of visiting a local community to experience their culture and how they go about their daily life Sandai Homestay & Cottages (B, L, D)
Day 2 : Early morning departure for Maasai Mara (ca. 5-6 hours)
The Masai Mara is a land of breathtaking vistas, abundant wildlife and endless plains. It is home to an excellent year-round concentration of game and is renowned for its annual visit by the two million animals that make up the Great Migration. The Masai Mara fulfills the dreams of any visitor searching for an amazing safari experience.
In the morning; carrying with you packed lunch from Sandai you will travel via endless plains and along striking mountain ranges to the world renowned Masai Mara Game Reserve. Your Camp is located in the Talek area just overlooking the amazing River Talek. It's a relatively long drive and when you reach your Camp, you will check in have some rest and then you can have evening game drive in the reserve as a preamble of what to expect the following day. Dinner and overnight at Tipilikwani Mara Camp (B, L, D)
The Mara consists of African landscapes, endless seas of golden grass dotted with picturesque acacia trees, are home to cheetah, leopard, large prides of lions, elephants, giraffe, hippos and many other species. Wildlife viewing in the Mara is fantastic all year round, and, from August to October it is the site of one of the most spectacular wildlife experiences on earth - the annual migration of close to two million wildebeests and zebras, crossings the crocodile-infested Mara river.
Day 3 : Game drives
Today you will have a more comprehensive game drive in the reserve after your breakfast. You can choose to have a morning game drive and be back to your camp for lunch and some rest as you enjoy your surroundings before embarking on an evening game drive to cap off the day. Or alternatively, you can spend your whole day in the reserve doing game drives and be back to your camp late in the afternoon for late lunch and thereafter relaxation in your camp. You have the options of either visiting a local Maasai village or experiencing the wild Africa on foot while on a guided safari walk. Dinner and overnight at Tipilikwani Mara Camp (B, L, D)
Day 4 : Drive to Nairobi (ca. 5-6 hours) | Transfer to Destination of Choice within Nairobi
This morning, you, you will have an early drive back to Nairobi; this takes approximately 6 hours - road and weather dependent. You will then be transferred either to the Airport for your departure to your next destination or to a destination of your own choice within Nairobi.
LAIKIPIA-SOLIO | Sandai Homestay & Cottages
The Sandai homestead consists of a big comfortable farmhouse and two guest houses, four rooms, with shower/bath tap and toilet. The guest houses are comfortably furnished. The main building Sandai is the centre of the entire estate and contains, apart from the private quarters, the kitchen, the spacious dining groom, the living room with the open fireplace, the bar and the shop. You can also find guest rooms in the main-building. Both living room and dining room offer enough space for a homely get-together and talks about the experienced adventures of the day. The kitchen and dining room is in the farmhouse, where you will enjoy your meals together with the owner and her family. The comfortable living room is equipped with an open fireplace, where you can sit and listen to stories and experiences about Africa. Electricity is supplied through a generator and solar panels and you don't have to be terrified of animals, they will always be at a safe distance from people, and are more afraid of you than the other way round. Guests will always feel immediately at home in this peaceful and relaxing atmosphere and listen to the voices of the African savannah.
MAASAI MARA | Tipilikwani Mara Camp
The camp is uniquely situated on the banks of the Talek River overlooking the mottled plains of the Maasai Mara, where vast herds of wildlife co-exist with the colorful Maasai people. Tipilikwani's tents enjoy river frontage and are decorated with warm, rich Maasai colors. The family tents have a stand-alone bath tub in addition to showers. Excellent food, personalized service and traditional Kenyan hospitality further compliment the prime location. The camp has 20 luxury tents (2 family tents each comprising two adjoining tents: one with king-sized bed, the other with 2 queen-sized beds, 4 tents with king-sized double beds,12 tents with queen-size twin beds. The family tents have a stand-alone bathtub in addition to showers.
